Child mummy from Qilaqitsoq, Greenland
As a curtesy to my german readers I have enhanced this most popular
image on my site. I took the picture (quite illegally) in the exibition hall
of the National Museum of Nuuk in Greenland in 1984. The child was found in
the seventies in a rock cave near Uummannaq together with 3 women, mummyfied
by the cold dry air. They are presumed to have drowned in a umiaq (womens
skin boat) accident in the thirteenth century.
